[Review] Marvel Collector Corps October 2016 Doctor Strange Unboxing

Open your mind to October's MCC Doctor Strange box! With the premiere of the Doctor Strange film, this box is filled with items inspired by the movie. Let's open up the box and see what mind-tripping items we've got this month!

As usual in every box, we have a pin and patch.

The pin features the Eye of Agamotto while the patch features Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. I really love this pin and patch! Seeing the Eye of Agamotto pin makes me hope we'll get the other Infinity Stones in their original forms (Tesseract, Aether, Loki's Scepter and Orb) as pins in the future. With regards to the patch, I feel that it would look a lot cooler if the outer blue circle was instead designed with the fireworks-like effect as seen in the movie. This patch is still freaking amazing, nonetheless.

Next, we have the Doctor Strange and the Sorcerers Supreme #1 Pop! Variant Cover comic.

There's probably no need to say it but this is one amazing variant cover. The colors are fantastic and the design just brings out the mood of the movie very well (trippiness is what I'd like to say).

For the guaranteed wearable...*drum roll*

Yes! We're back to getting a shirt for the guaranteed wearable! While most MCC shirts design only uses two colors, this shirt uses a whopping eight! This makes it the most truthful to its character's colors. Also while I love the design, I'm a tad bit disappointed with how they chose to design the magic effects with white circles. A simplified version of the film's effects would have been awesome but nonetheless, still a nice shirt.

For toys, we get a Levitating Astral Doctor Strange Pop!

It features a transparent plastic with glitters inside, (somewhat) recreating that astral form look seen in the movie.

While its design just screams exclusive, most of its sculpt details are lost because of the plastic and colors used. To me, a regular paint version would have been good enough as an exclusive, especially since it has such a unique sculpt where the cape is used to make Doctor Strange levitate.

The last item in this month's box is the Doctor Strange mug.

Although I find it weird to be drinking from a character's head, I got to say that this mug is pretty cute.

However, a mug is definitely still on the list of items most subscribers do not want to receive. After so many boxes where "unpopular" types of items have been added as a "surprise", I can't help but think Funko doesn't really know their subscribers well. That, or they just have a contract with a mug and cap company and needed to fulfill them till who knows when. The worst thing, however, is that my mug has a paint defect smacked right at the top of Doctor Strange's face. There's an unpainted spot and a black smudge above it. Bummer. (Like this mug? Get it here)

Price Breakdown:
1) Eye of Agamotto Pin $5
2) Doctor Strange Patch $5
3) Doctor Strange and the Sorcerers Supreme #1 Pop! Variant Cover Comic $5
4) Doctor Strange Pop! T-Shirt $25
5) Levitating Astral Doctor Strange Pop! $45
6) Doctor Strange Mug $15
Total: $100

As always, here's the card that gives us information on the concepts and finalized designs of the items and also the reveal of the next theme:

X-Men!
Overall, I do love most of the items in this box. To be honest, I would normally sell most of the items from MCC boxes to recoup the cost but this is actually the first time I've decided to keep everything except the mug. Well, one can only hope that there won't be any mugs or caps in the upcoming X-Men box!

How do you like this month's box, Marvel fans? What do you think of the Astral Doctor Strange Pop!? What items do you think will be in the X-Men box?
