[Review] Marvel Collector Corps February 2017 Superhero Showdowns Unboxing

With the handful of teasers featuring characters portrayed by rectangle boxes, many had speculated that the theme would be used for both February and April boxes, i.e. a Heroes box and a Villains box. While that is a cool idea, Funko decided to narrow things down to a single box and heck, it is amazing. It has so many "firsts" that it will probably make long-time subscribers feel like newcomers! Without further ado, let's open up the box and see what rivals we've got!

Box art on the inside

As usual, let's begin with the pin and patch.

The pin features the two mighty hulks in a face-split-in-half design to show their likeness along with their differences; though they're barely noticeable. A spikey hairdo for Red Hulk would've been great to differentiate them further. Nevertheless, this marks the first pin to feature two characters and I do have to say that this is certainly my favorite way in seeing rivalries portrayed.

Onto the patch, we have Iron Man and Ultron in a staring contest! Jokes aside, the patch does look pretty cool. The line details on Iron Man and Ultron are truly fantastic. Like the pin, this patch is also the first to feature two characters.

Next, we have the Inhumans VS X-Men #1 Variant Cover comic featuring Wolverine and Sabretooth!

Now, it's a cool-looking cover and all but you're probably thinking the same as me: Why is Sabretooth there? I mean, wouldn't it be great if Funko made an actual Inhuman VS an X-Men for this cover, even if it is just Black Bolt and Cyclops blasting beams at each other? Though it's a small matter, it is rather disappointing to see yet another cover that's irrelevant to its title. However, it is still interesting to note that this the first time a comic uses a photo for a MCC variant cover.

Onto the wearable, we get a shirt! Once again, thank Funko for listening!

Now this is what I'm talking about! A Pop! version of a comic cover on a shirt! Although the colors aren't very attractive, its design is simple yet awesome. It has the details of a vintage comic; down to the old-school titles and worn-out texture design. Just awesome!

Bring out the toys! Behold... The first appearance of Pint Size Heroes in a MCC box!

Ever since I learned about the Spider-Man Pint Size Heroes back when the MCC Spider-Man box started shipping, I've always wanted to get one of these cute little toys to display on top of my computer screen. Now, I get two!

While Captain America looks really good with his shield, Red Skull is a little plain. Nevertheless, it is nice to see this strong rivalry in such a cute form.

Onto the last item... The Bullseye VS Daredevil Pop! Two-Pack!

I have to admit: this is one amazing two-pack. Not only are the Pop!s awesome, the box art at the back is killing it as well. With this two-pack, we get our very first Bullseye Pop! and Black Suit (All New All Different) Daredevil Pop!

To have them in cool action poses just make it a whole lot more exclusive. Daredevil's leaping pose and Bullseye's ready-to-strike pose work so well together. While Bullseye is a little bland with just a few colors (as expected), Daredevil has a great range of paint including gloss black for his gloves and boots, metallic red, silver and matte black.

Bullseye: You're good Daredevil, I'll grant you that! But I'm better and I'll prove it!

 Bullseye: Nevermind...

Price Breakdown:
1) Hulk / Red Hulk Pin $5
2) Iron Man / Ultron Patch $5
3) Inhumans VS X-Men #1 Wolverine VS Sabretooth Variant Cover Comic $5
4) Spidey VS Goblin Pop! T-Shirt $25
5) Captain America & Red Skull Pint Size Heroes $10
6) Bullseye VS Daredevil Pop! Two-Pack $40
Total: $90

As usual, here's the card that gives us information on the concepts and finalized designs of the items and also the reveal of the next theme:

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2! Obviously.

Overall, other than the little nitpicks on the pin and comic, this box is pretty amazing. If you love the Bullseye / Daredevil rivalry, getting this box is definitely worth it because who wouldn't like the cute Pint Size Heroes and cool Spidey VS Goblin Pop T-Shirt, am I right?

Did you like how the rivalries were represented? What do you hope to see in April's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 box? I certainly hope we'll get a Pop! version of this monochrome poster for a T-Shirt design!
