[Review] Marvel Legends X-Men 2017 Warlock Series Cyclops

Thanks and no thanks to a friend who recommended the old '90s X-Men cartoon to me, I'm officially hooked to the X-Men. Seeing the lineup for this X-Men 2017 Warlock Build-A-Figure wave got me so excited for its release and I can't believe we got it first in Singapore. Needless to say, Cyclops was one every fan of the cartoon and ol' Jim Lee's X-Men was waiting for. Without further ado, let's take a look at how awesome he is.

The first thing long-time Marvel Legends collectors would notice is that Cyclops uses the Bucky Cap body mold. However, he has many new sculpted pieces that make him unique; just like the recent Deadpool figure. These pieces are the yellow straps and belts as well as the beautifully-sculpted head. Reusing the Bucky Cap mold also helps increase the budget for other figures like the crazily-detailed and humongous Warlock BAF as well as Colossus and Old Man Logan who both feature entirely new body molds. And if the body mold works well for Cyclops, there's really nothing to complain about, is there?

The sculpt and paint for Cyclops's head is just fantastic. There's a nice black shading in every sculpted line and a neatly-painted visor. The gold paint is a nice touch to resemble his comic/cartoon counterpart where it's shown to be reflective. I can't say much for how he looked in the comics, but in comparison to his looks in the cartoon, the nose and mouth is just spot-on. Awesome!

Even though the straps are well-sculpted, they are annoying as hell to deal with when posing Cyclops. Because they are not sculpted or glued onto the Bucky Cap body, they are only held in place by friction. It is a minor issue that could be easily fixed though. However, here's the only thing that bums me about this figure, the chest strap and belt's color. The plastic color used for this piece is different from all the other straps. What I don't understand is why there was a need to use a different color plastic when they were meant to be of the same light yellow? Did Hasbro's factory run out of light yellow plastic? (There's a similar issue for Colossus which I will address in his review soon.)

Articulation

 Ball-jointed head and hinged neck

Shoulder swivel and hinge, bicep swivel, double-jointed elbow and wrist swivel and hinge

Ab crunch (because of the belt design, the ab crunch and waist articulation can only move slightly)

Waist swivel, ball-jointed hips, thigh swivel, double-jointed knees, shin swivel and ankle pivot and rotation

Cyclops's widest stance with both feet flat on the ground

Overall, although his poses are rather restricted because of the chest strap plus its slightly off-putting color, this figure is a must-have for any 90's X-Men cartoon and Jim Lee fans. The Bucky Cap mold works well with Cyclops's physique and articulation requirements and looks good in almost every pose he is put in. This is most definitely the Cyclops figure old kids have been waiting for.

Cyclops: Damn, Logan, you've really grown old.
Logan: Yeah? My claws are still good as new.

Cyclops: Remember back when you chased Jean but I was the one who married her? On our honeymoon, I used these two fingers-
Logan: Shut it, bub, before I stick these up yours.
